Global maternal death: Nigeria tops by a wide margin

Nigeria — 75,000 deaths

India — 19,000 deaths

DR Congo — 19,000 deaths

Pakistan — 11,000 deaths

Nigeria leads globally in maternal deaths, accounting for over a quarter (around 28-29%) of all worldwide fatalities, with roughly 75,000 women dying annually from pregnancy/childbirth complications, averaging one death every seven minutes, primarily due to preventable issues like hemorrhage, hypertension, and unsafe abortions, exacerbated by weak healthcare systems and funding cuts.
