Abubakar Malami, former Attorney General, has entered the 2027 Kebbi governorship race under the ADC, reshaping the political landscape. Malami said his decision was driven by insecurity, agricultural collapse, and policy failure. However, the EFCC invited him as part of an investigation into the alleged $490m Abacha loot.
The Kebbi State Government insists Malami’s ambition poses no threat to Governor Nasir Idris. Analysts suggest Malami’s move could fragment the APC’s support base, potentially leading to a three-way contest, and that “the people of Kebbi will decide their governor.”
