CAF, teammates hail William Troost-Ekong retirement

Super Eagles players and the Confederation of African Football (CAF) have commended William Troost-Ekong following his retirement from international football. The 32-year-old defender announced his decision via an emotional video, concluding a ten-year career with Nigeria just before the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.

Ekong, who debuted in 2015 under Stephen Keshi, cherished his time as captain, achieving 83 caps and three medals. His career highlight included captaining Nigeria to the 2023 AFCON final, where he scored and was named Player of the Tournament. Tributes poured in from teammates and CAF.
