Lagos court jails Godswill Akpan for manslaughter

A Lagos High Court, sitting at Tafawa Balewa Square, recently convicted Godswill Akpan, a 42-year-old tricycle driver, sentencing him to 10 years imprisonment for the killing of his 30-year-old colleague, Baba Ali Bukar. The court found Akpan responsible for the death.

Justice Yetunde Adesanya delivered the judgment, determining that the prosecution successfully demonstrated Akpan’s guilt beyond a reasonable doubt in the case of involuntary manslaughter. This verdict followed a thorough legal process.

Akpan faced arraignment on October 18, 2021, on a single charge of involuntary manslaughter with provocation, which was based on an initial information filed on December 17, 2019, detailing the offense.
