Enugu State Police have apprehended Chibuike Joshua Ugwuja, 26, for allegedly orchestrating his own abduction and demanding a N35 million ransom from his family. This incident has drawn significant attention to the peculiar nature of the crime.
Ugwuja, employed as a private security guard in Trans-Ekulu, was reported missing on November 24, 2025. His father notified the Trans-Ekulu Police Division after he failed to return from work two days prior, sparking an initial search.
Further complicating matters, police sources indicate that Ugwuja messaged a female neighbor on Facebook. In the message, he claimed to have been kidnapped by unknown gunmen while riding a commercial bus, stating that his captors were now seeking a substantial ransom.
