The Nigerian Senate has scheduled the screening of General Christopher Musa, the immediate past Chief of Defence Staff, as the new Minister of Defence on Wednesday. Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele emphasized that the process is crucial for ensuring national peace and stability amid ongoing security challenges. Musa’s nomination comes after former Minister Alhaji Mohammed Badaru resigned due to health reasons, prompting President Bola Tinubu to forward Musa’s name for confirmation.
Bamidele stated, “Since the President has declared a state of emergency on national security, both the Presidency and National Assembly must work hand in hand to ensure peace, stability and good government,” highlighting the urgency and national interest involved in the screening process.
