North Korean youths rush for Kim-style coats

Kim Jong Un’s recent public appearances in long leather trench coats have triggered a major fashion trend across North Korea, with young people scrambling to buy affordable leather jackets, faux fur coats, and combat boots inspired by his look.

Retailers say sales have jumped sharply this winter, with items selling for 50–120 Chinese yuan and available in various colours, a boost welcomed by local vendors who typically struggle during the colder seasons. According to a source quoted by NK Daily, “Jackets with short (faux) fur and leather jackets have been hot sellers at marketplaces this winter,” noting that rising demand has also extended to tall leather combat boots popular in snowy regions. The trend has grown even stronger as Kim, his daughter Kim Ju Ae, and senior officials have been frequently spotted wearing similar outfits on state TV.
