Aiyegbeni: “If voodoo worked, Africa would have a world cup”

Former Super Eagles striker Yakubu Aiyegbeni has criticised coach Eric Chelle for blaming Nigeria’s playoff loss to Congo on “voodoo,” calling the remark embarrassing and urging him to accept responsibility for the defeat.

Former Super Eagles striker Yakubu Aiyegbeni has blasted Nigeria’s coach, Eric Chelle, for attributing the team’s penalty shootout defeat to Congo to “voodoo,” describing the comment as embarrassing and unacceptable.

Chelle had claimed that Congo’s coach “did some voodoo” by sprinkling water on the pitch before missed Nigerian penalties, but Aiyegbeni argued that “If it was voodoo, I think an African country would have won the World Cup a long time ago.” He said Chelle should have congratulated Congo instead of “bringing shame to Nigeria,” adding that Nigeria created enough chances to win and must take responsibility for poor finishing and missed penalties. He urged the team to move on and focus on the upcoming AFCON.
