Kwara monarch, six others escape after vigilante attack on bandits

The abducted monarch, Ojibara of Bayagan in Ifelodun LGA, Kwara State, Alhaji Kamilu Salami, along with six others, escaped from the bandits’ den following a vigorous attack by vigilantes in the Eku Idaji area near Igbaja, Vanguard reports.

According to a community source, “the vigilante team launched an attack on the bandits deep in the forests and engaged them in a fierce battle around the Eku Idaji area, close to Igbaja. Although the Baale and the six other escapees are yet to arrive in the community, they have made contact with members of the community who confirmed what happened.”

The monarch had earlier been kidnapped on Saturday morning from his farm by a gang of bandits wielding AK-47 rifles, who demanded N150 million for his release.

During his captivity, Oba Ojibara reportedly urged the community to negotiate with the bandits, stating that an unspecified number of other people had also been abducted in a neighbouring community while he was being taken away.
