NYSC has resumed payment of arrears for the newly approved N77,000 allowance after a two-month suspension.
The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) on Wednesday resumed payment of arrears to corps members, the first disbursement since June 3 following a two-month pause.
The arrears are linked to the new N77,000 monthly allowance approved by the Federal Government earlier this year. On April 5, the NYSC Director-General, Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, assured that all eligible corps members, including those who had completed service, would receive the payment.
“Once funds are released to us to offset the arrears, we will pay them. Even our corps members who passed out recently will benefit. We have their bank details,” Nafiu said during the Batch A 2025 Pre-Mobilisation Workshop in Abuja.
A former corps member confirmed receipt of payment, telling PUNCH, “After waiting for two months, I didn’t expect to see another payment alert. But honestly, it’s not just about the money; it’s about feeling like our efforts actually count.”
