Former Inspector-General of Police, Solomon Arase, has died at the age of 69 in Abuja, leaving behind a legacy of service in the Nigerian Police Force and the Police Service Commission.
Former Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Solomon Arase, has died at the age of 69. He passed away on Sunday at Cedarcrest Hospital in Abuja, though neither his family nor the police have issued an official statement as of press time.
Arase, Nigeria’s 18th IGP, was appointed in 2015 and retired on June 21, 2016, upon reaching the mandatory retirement age. In 2023, he was named chairman of the Police Service Commission (PSC), but was later removed from the position by President Bola Tinubu.
Before becoming IGP, Arase headed the Criminal Intelligence and Investigation Bureau. Born on June 21, 1956, in Owan West Local Government Area of Edo State, he studied Political Science at Ahmadu Bello University, graduating in 1980. He later earned a Law degree from the University of Benin and a Master’s degree from the University of Lagos.
His death marks the passing of a respected police officer who spent decades in service to the nation.
