Dino Melaye faces court action over alleged N509.6m tax evasion for 2023 and 2024. The FCT-IRS accuses him of non-payment and under-declaration of income for previous years
A former Kogi West Senator, Dino Melaye, has been summoned before an Abuja Magistrate Court over alleged failure to remit over N509.6 million in personal income tax liabilities.
Court filings show Melaye allegedly owed N234,896,000 for 2023 and N274,712,000 for 2024, according to assessments by the Federal Capital Territory Internal Revenue Service (FCT-IRS). The agency also accused him of under-declaring income and underpaying taxes between 2019 and 2022.
A criminal summons dated August 21, 2025, compels Melaye’s appearance on September 5. The FCT-IRS said, “Despite reminders and ample time provided, your non-compliance with Section 41 of the Act constitutes a breach of your obligations.”
If convicted under the Personal Income Tax Act 2011, Melaye risks heavy fines, additional liabilities, and interest charges. He could not be reached for comments as calls to his phone went unanswered.
