UNIZIK expels students for violating ‘signing out’ ban

The management of Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK) has taken action against students who defied the institution’s newly imposed ban on “signing out” ceremonies, expelling them from the campus.

The university recently announced an indefinite ban on the popular tradition, where final-year students celebrate the completion of their final exams by writing on each other’s shirts and engaging in processions.

The decision, as stated by the university’s registrar, Chinenye Okeke, was in response to recurring incidents of violence, property damage and the infiltration of unauthorised individuals during the events.

The university had warned that any student found to be participating in the banned activities would face severe disciplinary measures, including rustication.
