The National Population Commission (NPC) is expanding its digital birth registration services, aiming for 8,000 centres nationwide. This initiative seeks to decentralize civil registration and enhance accessibility at the community level. NPC Chairman Aminu Yusuf highlighted the deployment of the VitalReg platform and collaborations with various organizations to bridge registration gaps.
Currently, approximately 4,000 wards are covered, with plans to significantly increase this number. The digital system replaces manual registration, crucial for timely vital statistics. UNICEF emphasizes birth registration as a fundamental right, essential for accessing services and child protection.
