Foreign reserves near $53bn as CBN reforms gain traction

Nigeria’s foreign reserves have surpassed $52.5 billion, reaching a 17-year high as of July 17, 2026. This surge, exceeding the annual target, signals the positive impact of the Central Bank of Nigeria’s (CBN) monetary reforms.

CBN Governor Olayemi Cardoso noted that the increase reflects growing investor confidence and sustained capital inflows. Reforms in foreign exchange, banking, and payments are credited with stabilizing the economy.
