The Nigerian Christian Pilgrim Commission has lifted its suspension on pilgrimage to Israel after a three-day security assessment, though pilgrims will only be allowed entry through Tel Aviv, as Jordan remains unsafe.
NCPC Lifts Ban on Christian Pilgrimage to Israel
Nigerian pilgrims can head back to the Holy Land. Per The Nation, NCPC Executive Secretary Bishop Stephen Adegbite made the announcement at the Wailing Wall in Jerusalem, declaring: “The Holy Land is peaceful. Jerusalem is at peace and will continue to be at peace.”
The Commission had suspended pilgrimage in February following hostilities involving Israel, Iran and the US. Adegbite said pilgrims will now travel exclusively through Ben Gurion International Airport in Tel Aviv, since Jordan remains considered unsafe for pilgrimage operations.
He expressed confidence that the remaining 2026 pilgrimage exercise would proceed successfully, noting previous batches had already completed safe trips, and offered prayers for peace in both Israel and Nigeria.
