The Nigerian government has clarified that Kuwait has not imposed a new ban on Nigerian domestic workers, explaining the suspension was initiated years ago by the Nigerian Embassy over welfare concerns.
Kuwait Has Not Imposed Fresh Ban on Nigerian Domestic Workers — FG
No fresh ban, just an old measure resurfacing in headlines. Per Tribune Online, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, through spokesperson Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa, said reports of a new Kuwaiti ban misrepresent the situation.
The ministry explained that the Nigerian Embassy in Kuwait City had earlier written to Kuwait’s Foreign Ministry requesting a suspension of recruitment and deployment of Nigerian domestic workers, pending safeguards for their rights and working conditions. It described the situation as “a continuation of measures earlier adopted by the Embassy,” not a Kuwaiti-imposed restriction.
Nigeria said it would continue engaging Kuwait diplomatically toward fair recruitment practices and urged the media to verify information before publishing.
