Ghana’s tallest man, Sulemana Abdul Samed, known as Awuche, has died at 33 after being treated for infected leg sores.

Ghana’s tallest man, Sulemana Abdul Samed, popularly known as Awuche, has died at 33 at Tamale Teaching Hospital after being admitted with infected sores on his legs, the PUNCH reports. Standing 7ft 4in, he lived with Marfan syndrome, a condition affecting connective tissue.

A relative, Sulemana Abdul Kudus, described him as generous and beloved, noting businessman Ibrahim Mahama had supported his treatment. Awuche’s fame put his village, Gambaga, on the map. His family will bury him in Tamale, fearing Gambaga would be overwhelmed by mourners.
