13 dead, search ongoing: Suspected herdsmen launch deadly attack on Benue’s Efeyi community

No fewer than 13 persons have been confirmed dead and several others remain missing after suspected herdsmen launched a deadly attack on Efeyi community in Ugboju, Otukpo Local Government Area of Benue State on Tuesday, with a search operation still ongoing.

No fewer than 13 persons have been confirmed dead following a fresh attack by suspected herdsmen on Efeyi community in Ugboju, Otukpo Local Government Area of Benue State on Tuesday. Several other residents remain unaccounted for as search efforts continue across the area.

As reported by Daily Post, the attackers invaded the village and opened fire on residents, sending the community into chaos and forcing many to flee. Thirteen bodies have so far been recovered, with the death toll potentially rising as the search for missing persons continues.

The attack is the latest in a relentless wave of violent assaults on Benue communities that has claimed dozens of lives in recent weeks alone. Ohimini Local Government Area suffered a similar attack just days earlier, with several killed and approximately 30 residents reported missing in the aftermath of that raid.

When contacted for an official response, Benue State Police Public Relations Officer Edet Udeme said she would obtain details of the incident. No further statement had been issued by the command as of the time of filing this report.

No arrests have been publicly announced in connection with Tuesday’s attack on Efeyi community. The search for survivors and missing persons was ongoing as of the time of this report.
