Court sentences 37-year-old to death for robbing Ekiti varsity students

An Ekiti State High Court has sentenced 37-year-old Ayeni Tunde Kazeem to death by hanging for armed robbery, after he was found guilty of robbing five students of Bamidele Olumilua University of their mobile phones at gunpoint.

Five phones, a death sentence. According to The Nation, an Ekiti State High Court has sentenced Ayeni Tunde Kazeem, 37, to death by hanging for robbing students of Bamidele Olumilua University of Education, Science and Technology at gunpoint.

Justice Lekan Olatawura convicted Kazeem on a five-count armed robbery charge tied to an October 2024 hostel invasion, where he allegedly forced his way into a room, brandished a pistol, and made students hand over phones worth N680,000.

A victim testified that the assailant loaded the gun and pointed it at them before fleeing. The judge noted Kazeem showed no remorse throughout the trial before delivering the death sentence.
