The UK has exempted only Botswana, Mauritius and Tunisia among African nations from submitting upfront proof of funds for Student and Child Student visas, while other applicants, including Nigerians, must still comply.

The United Kingdom on Monday updated its financial requirements for Student and Child Student visa applicants, retaining stricter evidence rules for most African countries, according to updated guidance published on the UK government’s website, PUNCH reports.

Botswana, Mauritius and Tunisia made the exemption list alongside Australia, Canada, China, Japan, New Zealand, Singapore, the US, and several European and Gulf nations.

Applicants from exempted countries must still meet financial requirements and can be asked for evidence during processing. Nigeria, Ghana, Kenya, South Africa, Egypt and others remain outside the exemption list.

Under the rules, students outside London need £1,171 monthly for up to nine months; those in London need £1,529 monthly. Dependants require an additional £680 or £845 monthly, depending on location.

Acceptable funds include student loans, sponsorships and personal savings held for 28 consecutive days. Overdrafts, cryptocurrency, stocks, pensions and unregulated accounts are not accepted.
