Bad cholesterol diagnosis turned me into a marathon runner — Guinness World Records holder, Akinbode

A health scare turned Dayo Akinbode, a former corporate professional, into a marathon runner and Guinness World Record holder. Initially focused on academics, Akinbode’s life took a turn in 2011 after a diagnosis of high cholesterol. A company-wide step challenge in 2012 motivated her to become more active, eventually leading her to marathon running.

Her journey into marathon running began with a half marathon in Accra in 2012, followed by full marathons starting in 2014. Akinbode, now the African ambassador for the Marathon Globetrotters Club, has faced challenges related to her Nigerian passport during international travels. She also founded FogAdventures to promote marathon tourism in Africa.
