Ex-Governor Convicted Of Murdering 26-Year-Old Pregnant Girlfriend In Kenya
Former Migori County governor Okoth Obado has been found guilty of murdering his pregnant girlfriend, university student Sharon Otieno, according to a report by Gazette NGR.
The verdict, delivered on Thursday after eight years of investigation, was handed down by Judge Cecilia Githua in a trial televised live. She ruled that Obado “orchestrated a plot to eliminate Otieno,” supplying the “motive, instigation and funds” behind the killing.
His co-accused were convicted alongside him. Former personal assistant Michael Oyamo “facilitated execution,” the judge said, while ex-county clerk Caspal Obiero handled logistics and concealment to help avoid detection.
The break in the case came from journalist Barack Oduor of Nation Media Group, whom Otieno had confided in about the affair before her death. Oduor said the two were later abducted together but he escaped the moving vehicle. His account helped police trace the vehicle after Otieno’s body was found two days later; she had been raped and stabbed.
Otieno’s legal team said justice had “at last” been served. Obado and his co-accused remain in custody pending sentencing.
