Police have confirmed 30 cases of alleged politically motivated killings ahead of Osun’s August 15 governorship election, with a few suspects arrested and some already facing court charges.
The police have confirmed 30 cases of alleged politically motivated killings ahead of Osun’s August 15 governorship election, force spokesman Anietie Iniedu said on Channels TV on Tuesday, Peoples Gazette reports.
Iniedu said some suspects had been arrested, paraded, and a few charged in court, adding that full details would only be released once investigations and court cases are concluded. “From the complaints received, we cannot rule out the involvement of some politicians in the killings,” he said.
He denied any police cover-up, noting that Inspector General Olatunji Disu had ordered that suspects be tracked and prosecuted. Disu earlier visited Osogbo to warn against political violence, meeting Governor Ademola Adeleke and other stakeholders. Specialised units, drones and helicopters have since been deployed to the state.
