MUTU FORFEITS ₦150M
A Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered the final forfeiture of ₦150 million linked to Delta State lawmaker Nicholas Mutu to the Federal Government.
According to PM News Nigeria, Justice J.O. Abdulmalik granted the order following an application by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, which argued the funds were proceeds of unlawful activities.
The EFCC told the court its investigation showed Mutu allegedly received kickbacks exceeding ₦400 million from an NDDC consultant while chairing the House of Representatives Committee on the Niger Delta Development Commission, with the funds passing through accounts linked to companies tied to the lawmaker.
The court ruled that no sufficient cause was shown against the forfeiture, ordering that the ₦150 million previously returned by Mutu be permanently forfeited to the Federal Government.
