A grieving Plateau State man has recounted the harrowing killing of his pregnant sister, Larai Danjuma, by suspected Fulani bandits who stormed the labour room of Kawel village’s Primary Health Centre during a deadly June 21 attack that claimed multiple lives including health workers and patients.
She went into the labour room to bring new life into the world. She never came back out.
Daniel Nanle stood before Plateau State Deputy Governor Ngo Josephine Piyo on Thursday — voice heavy, heart heavier — and recounted the night suspected Fulani bandits turned a delivery room into a killing field.
According to Daily Post, his younger sister, Larai Danjuma, had gone into labour the night of Sunday, June 21, 2026. Her family rushed her to the Primary Health Centre in Kawel village, Mushere Chiefdom, Bokkos Local Government Area. She made it to the labour room. She was ready to deliver.
Then the attackers came.
“My immediate younger sister, Larai Danjuma, was married to Mr. Danjuma Damial. She was taken to the hospital because she was due for delivery. Unfortunately, the attackers came and killed her in the labour room,” Nanle told the Deputy Governor, according to local correspondents covering the condolence visit.
Larai was killed alongside other patients and health workers — victims of an attack that has shocked even a state tragically accustomed to violence.
Through his grief, Nanle turned his pain into an urgent plea.
“I am appealing to the state government, the federal government, and security agencies to intervene,” he said.
A labour room. A pregnant woman. A family waiting for cries of joy.
What they got instead was silence — and a funeral.
Kawel village didn’t just lose lives on June 21. It lost the sacred belief that nowhere — not even a delivery room — is beyond the reach of those who come to kill.
