Mining companies operating in Nigeria must obtain a social licence to operate from host communities, according to the Director-General of the Mining Cadastre Office, Obadiah Nkom. He emphasized that corporate trust and community programs are vital for sustainable mining, as merely securing a mineral title is insufficient. Nkom highlighted the global shift towards ESG compliance and community engagement in the mining sector.
