A Plateau State man has recounted the devastating killing of his pregnant sister, Larai Danjuma, by gunmen who stormed a Primary Health Centre in Kawel community while she was in the labour room about to give birth — one of 22 people killed in Sunday night’s attack.
She went to the hospital to bring life into the world. Gunmen made sure she never left.
Larai Danjuma was in labour when her family rushed her to the Primary Health Centre in Kawel community, Mushere District, Bokkos LGA, Plateau State, on Sunday night. She made it to the labour room. She never made it out.
“My immediate sister was married to Mr. Danjuma Damial. She was taken to the hospital because she was due for delivery. Unfortunately, the attackers came and killed her,” Nanle said.
Larai was one of 22 people killed when gunmen stormed the sleeping community and unleashed carnage on the health centre — cutting down patients, health workers and security personnel without mercy or distinction.
Nanle shared his story during a visit by Plateau State Deputy Governor, Ngo Josephine Chundung Piyo, who came to commiserate with survivors and victims’ families on Tuesday.
Through his grief, Nanle found his voice — and directed it squarely at government.
“I am appealing to the state government and the Federal Government to intervene,” he pleaded.
A woman in labour. A health centre that should have been sanctuary. Twenty-two lives extinguished in one night.
Kawel community didn’t just lose its people on Sunday. It lost the belief that any place — even a delivery room — could ever truly be safe again.
