Nigerian music stars Wizkid, Asake, Tems and Burna Boy have secured nominations at the 2026 BET Awards, with Wizkid and Asake making history as the first contemporary African artistes nominated in the Best Group category.
Nigerian music stars Wizkid, Burna Boy, Asake and Tems have secured nominations at the 2026 BET Awards, further cementing Afrobeats’ growing global dominance ahead of the June 28 ceremony in Los Angeles.
A historic moment sees Wizkid and Asake nominated in the Best Group category for their collaborative project, REAL Vol. 1, making them the first contemporary African artistes recognised in that category. They will compete against Clipse, FLO, Nas & DJ Premier, and others.
Tems earned three nominations including Best Female R&B/Pop Artist and the Viewers’ Choice Award for Raindance, her collaboration with British rapper Dave.
Burna Boy received a Best Collaboration nomination for his appearance on WGFT alongside American rapper Gunna.
