A tragic driving lesson ended in disaster in Port Harcourt as a learner driver rammed a vehicle into a residence, killing three children from the same mother.
A driving lesson ended in tragedy in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital, when a lady learning how to drive crushed three children from the same mother to death. Daily Trust gathered that the incident occurred on May 15, 2026, at the Ogbunabali axis of the city, when an unidentified man was teaching his girlfriend how to drive. The lady behind the wheel lost control of the vehicle and rammed directly into the children’s residence, killing the three siblings on the spot. The deceased children were identified as being aged 10, 4, and 3 years old, and the horrific event has drawn a massive crowd of grieving sympathizers to the area.
Narrating how the disaster unfolded, a local resident explained the chaos that preceded the impact as onlookers realized the vehicle was out of control. A resident told Daily Trust: “They were at home in Ogbunabali when this happened. A young man was teaching his girlfriend how to drive. So, as she was driving, people started shouting. Before we knew it, the car had rammed into the woman’s house. That was how her three children lost their lives. It is very painful, and the mother has been crying because the children were all going to school,” the source stated. The distraught mother of the three children, Amarachi Promise Esomonu, has since made an emotional public appeal, calling on the government and security agencies to ensure justice is served for her untimely loss.
The Rivers State Police Command has officially stepped into the matter following widespread public outrage and mourning within the state. Police spokesperson in Rivers State, ASP Blessing Kaborlo Agabe, who confirmed the incident in a statement on Tuesday night, said the Commissioner of Police, Olugbenga Adepoju, had ordered an investigation. She said the State Police Command was saddened by the tragic incident, which she said has generated “widespread grief and concern”. The police image-maker further condoled with the bereaved family and assured the public that every necessary legal step would be taken to ensure that the family gets justice in the matter.
