Tinubu sacks Wale Edun, Dangiwa as ministers

President Tinubu has reshuffled his cabinet, replacing Finance Minister Wale Edun with Taiwo Oyedele and appointing Muttaqha Darma to succeed Ahmed Dangiwa in the Housing Ministry to boost economic policy delivery.

President Bola Tinubu has approved a minor reshuffle of the Federal Executive Council, resulting in the removal of Wale Edun as the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, and Ahmed Dangiwa as the Minister of Housing and Urban Development. The announcement, made on Tuesday, April 21, 2026, through a memo from the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), George Akume, directs the outgoing officials to conclude all handover processes by Thursday, April 23.

In a significant promotion, Taiwo Oyedele has been appointed as the new substantive Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy. Oyedele, a renowned tax expert who previously chaired the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms, had only recently been sworn in as Minister of State for Finance in March 2026. His elevation is seen as a strategic move to centralize economic policy under the leadership that spearheaded the administration’s recent tax reform legislations.

Additionally, Dr. Muttaqha Rabe Darma has been named the minister-designate for the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development, pending Senate confirmation. SGF George Akume explained that these changes are part of a continuous effort to “strengthen cohesion and synergy” within the government. The reshuffle is intended to accelerate the delivery of the “Renewed Hope Agenda,” specifically targeting more impactful economic outcomes as the administration nears its third year.
