Nigerian telecom stakeholders are calling for increased investment in broadband, cloud platforms and data centres, warning that AI adoption across the country will depend on the strength of its digital infrastructure.
Telcos Push for More Broadband Investment to Drive AI
Nigeria’s telecom industry is pushing for greater investment in broadband, cloud platforms and data centres to support AI adoption, according to Punch Newspapers.
Speaking at the West Africa Telecoms Infrastructure Summit in Lagos, ipNX’s Dr Olusola Teniola said AI already shapes how networks are managed and secured, but future growth demands stronger digital infrastructure.
Stakeholders urged Africa to build AI solutions tailored to local challenges rather than relying solely on foreign technology, while also calling for responsible deployment, transparency and improved digital literacy.
The discussions reinforced telecoms as the backbone of Nigeria’s push toward becoming AI-ready.
