Suspected assassins kill nursing student in Imo apartment

Suspected assassins have murdered a female nursing student, Wendy Achumba, in her off-campus apartment in Obowo Local Government Area of Imo State.

Suspected assassins have murdered Wendy Achumba, a female student of the College of Nursing Umulogho, in Obowo Local Government Area of Imo State, with the Imo State Police Command launching a manhunt for her killers.

The student, who hails from Isiala-Ngwa in Abia State and was said to be on post-basic training after completing her midwifery programme, was killed in her apartment on Thursday.

Confirming the incident, police spokesman Henry Okoye said operatives promptly visited the scene following the report.

“The Command is aware of the tragic incident involving the death of a female student of the College of Nursing, Umulogho, whose body was discovered in her private off-campus apartment,” Okoye said.

He added that the body had been recovered and deposited at the morgue, while investigation had commenced to unravel the circumstances surrounding the death.

“Consequently, the Command appeals to students and members of the public to remain calm, assuring that the situation is under control and that every effort is being made to ensure those behind the act are brought to justice,” the statement added.

One suspect has been arrested and is currently undergoing preliminary questioning.
