The chairman of the Police Service Commission, Hashimu Salihu Argungu, has urged experts to carefully examine the challenges facing the Nigeria Police Force as discussions on the creation of state police continue.

The Chairman of the Police Service Commission, Hashimu Salihu Argungu, has called on experts to carefully study the key challenges affecting the Nigeria Police Force as the country considers the creation of state police. Argungu made the call while receiving a committee working on the proposed state police framework at the commission’s headquarters in Abuja.

The committee, led by Olu Ogunsakin, visited the PSC as part of ongoing consultations on the proposed reform. During the meeting, Argungu emphasised the need for a structured and gradual process in developing a workable framework for the establishment of state police across the country.

He advised the committee to begin by identifying the reasons behind the growing demand for state police and the underlying issues that led to such calls. Argungu also urged the panel to examine the relationship between federal and state crimes and assess how policing responsibilities could be effectively shared between federal and state authorities.
