Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has withdrawn from the All Progressives Congress governorship primary, pledging to support the eventual candidate amid structural sidelining of his loyalists by rival political factions.
Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has withdrawn from the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship primary election ahead of the state’s 2027 polls.
According to Sahara Reporters, the development follows intense internal party friction, during which several Fubara loyalists, including Victor Oko-Jumbo and Chijioke Ihunwo, were excluded from the state legislative primaries. In contrast, figures aligned with the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, successfully scaled the party’s screening.
Fubara announced his exit in a statement issued on Wednesday night, indicating he would support whoever emerges as the party’s flagbearer.
“After deep reflection and extensive consultations with my family, friends, and associates, I have taken the difficult but necessary decision to withdraw from the APC governorship primaries. I do so with a full heart and with a firm commitment to support whoever emerges as the candidate of our great party,” Fubara stated.
