The Oyo State Government has dismissed as false viral social media claims that teachers and students abducted during last Friday’s school attack in Oriire Local Government Area have been freed.
The Special Adviser on Security to Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, Abayomi Fagbenro, has denied reports circulating on social media that victims abducted during last Friday’s attack on schools in Oriire Local Government Area had been released.
“As of 10:35 am, it is not true,” Fagbenro said, confirming the victims remained in captivity as of Thursday morning.
The Oyo State Police Public Relations Officer, Olayinka Ayanlade, also said he was unaware of any release, adding that security agencies were intensifying rescue efforts.
Gunmen had attacked three schools in the Ahoro-Esinle/Yawota axis of Ogbomoso last Friday, abducting pupils, students and teachers from Baptist Nursery and Primary School, Community Grammar School and LEA Primary School, Esiele, while killing at least one person.
