NSCDC busts Badagry baby factory selling newborns for N1m

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has dismantled a major baby factory in the Badagry area of Lagos, rescuing 18 pregnant women and 10 children while arresting two suspects.

Operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Lagos State Command, have uncovered an illegal “baby factory” operating in the Okuju, Ilado area of Badagry. In a coordinated overnight raid conducted between Wednesday and Thursday, security forces rescued 18 pregnant women and 10 children from a large residential facility. Two suspects, identified as Joy Okeke and Raphael Agwu, were arrested for allegedly operating the center. The victims, ranging in age from 18 to 30, were paraded on Friday at the NSCDC Badagry Division in Ibereko, revealing a sophisticated criminal enterprise that utilized social media to recruit vulnerable women.

Investigations revealed that the victims were lured to the facility through deceptive offers on Facebook. Once at the center, the operators allegedly arranged for the sale of newborns, with mothers being paid between N500,000 and N1.8 million depending on the transaction. Disturbingly, some women had reportedly arrived at the facility already accompanied by infants and young children intended for sale to prospective buyers. The command noted that the victims were kept in a large flat containing multiple rooms designed to house a high volume of women until their delivery dates.

Commandant Adedotun Keshinro of the Lagos State NSCDC confirmed that the successful bust was the result of a meticulous three-week intelligence-gathering operation. He explained that the command acted on specific actionable leads to pinpoint the exact location of the facility and ensure the safety of the captives. Reflecting on the scale of the operation and the nature of the facility, Keshinro stated that its operatives “swooped on the big flat containing many rooms that house the victims following actionable intelligence that lasted three weeks.”
