Yul Edochie has characterized Igbos who attack their kinsmen for supporting President Tinubu as cowards, defending the right of South-Easterners to participate in the “City Boy” re-election campaign.
Nollywood actor and politician Yul Edochie has sparked controversy by labeling Igbos who criticize their kinsmen for supporting President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid as “monkeys and cowards.” In a viral post on X, Edochie argued that such critics exhibit a double standard by focusing their vitriol solely on South-Easterners while ignoring supporters of the president from the Northern and Western regions. He challenged these detractors to show evidence of them “dragging” Yorubas or Northerners who back the administration, suggesting their bias is rooted in hypocrisy.
The actor’s outburst appears to be a direct response to recent comments by a prominent Catholic priest, Chibuzo Obimma (Ebube Muonso), who described Igbos in the “City Boy Movement” as “city fools” unable to see beyond their physical needs. Edochie’s defense highlights a growing political divide within the South-East as the 2027 election cycle approaches. He maintained that supporting the incumbent is a legitimate political choice and accused those trying to silence Igbo supporters of being selective in their activism.
The “City Boy” campaign, aimed at mobilizing support for President Tinubu, has recently gained traction in the South-East with high-profile figures like businessman Obi Cubana reportedly involved in the movement. Despite the pushback from regional critics and religious leaders, the campaign continues to establish structures across the country. Edochie, a vocal supporter of the administration, insisted that Nigerians are looking for leaders who can provide solutions, regardless of their ethnic background.
