Ghana extradites celebrity fraudster Abu Trica to U.S. over fraud charges

Ghanaian socialite Fredrick “Abu Trica” Kumi has been extradited to the U.S. to face trial over an $8 million romance scam targeting elderly victims.

Abu Trica Extradited to US Over $8M Fraud

Ghanaian socialite Fredrick “Abu Trica” Kumi is now U.S.-bound to answer for an alleged multimillion-dollar romance scam. The 31-year-old was put on a Delta Air Lines flight early Thursday, a year after a federal grand jury indicted him and others for defrauding elderly Americans of over $8 million, according to Peoples Gazette.

His lawyer, Oliver Barker-Vormawor, slammed the move on X, arguing Kumi’s case hadn’t yet been decided in court and calling the extradition a mockery of justice. The handover follows an Accra High Court ruling last week dismissing efforts to block it, though an appeal to Ghana’s Supreme Court remains possible.
