NYSC Faces Major Reforms
Nigeria’s 53-year-old National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) will undergo significant operational and administrative reforms, approved by the Federal Executive Council. President Bola Tinubu stated the changes aim to create “meaningful opportunities for young Nigerians.” Established in 1973 post-civil war for national unity, the scheme mobilizes 650,000 graduates annually. The government seeks to realign NYSC with current national priorities, despite criticisms and challenges.
