Confusion surrounds the future of an emerging opposition coalition reportedly involving Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, Nasir El-Rufai, and Rotimi Amaechi. The group’s possible adoption of the All Democratic Alliance (ADA) as its official political party has stirred debate, though the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has yet to approve ADA’s registration.
El-Rufai stated the coalition aims to unseat President Bola Tinubu in 2027 and advocated for adopting the Social Democratic Party (SDP), citing its legacy. “I strongly believe that the SDP is the best platform for a coalition,” he said.
Activist lawyer Maduabuchi Idam warned that ADA must not underperform if it comes to power. “There should be a limit to excuses for underperformance,” he noted.
However, Atiku’s camp denied formal ties to ADA. “It’s opposition coalition, not Atiku’s coalition,” a source said. INEC’s Sam Olumekun confirmed ADA has not yet met registration requirements. The coalition’s next steps remain unclear.
