Anthony Joshua resumes training with old rival Usyk

Anthony Joshua has partnered with former conqueror Oleksandr Usyk in a Valencia training camp to prepare for a November clash with Tyson Fury following his recovery from a fatal car accident in Nigeria.

Two-time former world heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua has resumed training in Spain alongside his former rival Oleksandr Usyk as he targets a massive “Battle of Britain” showdown against Tyson Fury in November 2026. Joshua, 36, recently returned to camp in Valencia after attending the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium to watch Fury’s unanimous points victory over Arslanbek Makhmudov on Saturday. This comeback marks Joshua’s first return to professional activity since a tragic car accident in Nigeria in late December 2025, which killed two of his close associates and left the boxer with minor physical injuries.

Despite their past rivalry, Usyk has taken an active role in Joshua’s rehabilitation and preparation, stating, “if we don’t help each other, we are not people, we are animals.” Promoter Eddie Hearn noted the partnership has given Joshua an “unbelievable lift,” describing scenes where the pound-for-pound number one is pushing Joshua through high-intensity circuits. While a summer warm-up bout in July is expected to test his physical recovery, Hearn maintains that Joshua is already studying footage of Fury in great detail, as he is “focused” and has found his “purpose”once again.
