ADC unveils 1ADC Movement to merge Obi, Atiku, Amaechi camps

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has unveiled the “1ADC” movement, a unified political front designed to merge the support bases of Peter Obi, Atiku Abubakar, and Rotimi Amaechi into a single platform aimed at unseating President Bola Tinubu and the APC in the 2027 general elections.

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has officially launched the “1ADC” movement, a strategic political initiative aimed at consolidating major opposition figures to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general elections. The party announced that leading presidential hopefuls, including former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, and former Rivers State Governor Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, are working in tandem to prevent President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s return to power. The movement is designed to be an inclusive platform, bridging gaps across age groups and social backgrounds to create a formidable challenge to the current administration.

During the unveiling ceremony in Abuja, the National Coordinator of the 1ADC Movement, Mrs. Lauretta Onochie, alongside former ADC National Chairman Dr. Ralphs Nwosu, emphasized that the initiative represents a new dawn for political unity in Nigeria. Onochie noted that the platform is specifically engineered to ensure that the diverse followership of Obi, Atiku, and Amaechi can operate as a cohesive team. “We are here to inform the world, the state, our political leaders that we have come together to be united as one ADC,” Onochie stated. She further addressed public skepticism regarding opposition alliances, adding, “Because Nigerians are asking an important question as to if political parties can ever come together and unite, today we are here to say it is possible and we are taking that lead.”

Acknowledging that internal friction is common in such large-scale realignments, the ADC leadership stressed that collective victory must supersede personal ambitions. Onochie assured supporters that the party would prioritize discipline and grassroots mobilization to reach the youth and the less privileged across the country. “We will unite after primaries, we will heal the wounds and we will not encourage anti-party activities. We will reach the grassroots, we will reach the poor, the young and we will be a party for every one. We will be strong, disciplined and united,” she concluded. The development signals an early and aggressive effort by the opposition to resolve procedural hurdles and present a unified alternative well before the 2027 ballot.
