Shettima: People told Tinubu I planned to kill him

Vice President Kashim Shettima revealed that detractors from Borno State falsely told President Tinubu early in his administration that Shettima was plotting to kill him using poisoned or fetish clothing to seize power.

Vice President Kashim Shettima has revealed that certain individuals tried to pitch him against President Bola Ahmed Tinubu just three months after their inauguration by claiming he was plotting a assassination. Speaking in Abuja at the launch of the autobiography of former Head of State, General Yakubu Gowon, Shettima disclosed that the unnamed detractors, who hail from his home state of Borno, warned the President to stop wearing traditional clothes gifted by the Vice President.

Recalling the confrontation, Shettima stated that President Tinubu dismissed the allegations as illogical, quoting the President as saying, “Sit down! Your people came to me and said stop wearing those Shettima’s clothes.” Tinubu noted that the garments were gifted well before they became running mates, later wearing them to prove he was not superstitious. Shettima used the occasion to urge Nigerians to unite as their brother’s keepers rather than acting as “merchants of divisions.”
