The Nigeria Police Force has extradited Samuel Ugberease to the United States to face trial for orchestrating a sophisticated multi-million dollar romance scam and wire fraud syndicate.
The Nigeria Police Force extradited Samuel Ugberease, known as “Putsammyy,” to the United States on Wednesday to face charges of wire fraud and romance scams. According to Peoples Gazette, the suspect was handed over following coordinated efforts between INTERPOL Abuja and U.S. authorities.
Force spokesperson Anthony Placid stated the syndicate used fake identities to manipulate victims into sending money for “fabricated emergencies.” Investigations linked Ugberease to a scheme that defrauded one victim of over $1.5 million between 2014 and 2018.
“The suspect, who was based in South Africa prior to his arrest, was extradited on Wednesday, 14th May 2026,” Placid confirmed. Ugberease was initially apprehended at Lagos airport in December 2025 following an INTERPOL Red Notice. A Federal High Court subsequently approved the extradition to the Eastern District of North Carolina.
