More than seven abductees attempting to flee Boko Haram captivity in Borno State have reportedly been beheaded by terrorists, as concerns grow over the fate of hundreds of women and children still held by the insurgents.
A faction of Boko Haram terrorists known as Jama’atu Ahlis-Sunna Lidda’Awati Wal-Jihad (JAS) has reportedly executed more than seven captives who attempted to escape from their hideout in Borno State. The incident, according to sources, occurred on Tuesday evening inside one of the terrorists’ camps, where dozens of abducted civilians, mostly women and children, are allegedly being held under harsh conditions.
SaharaReporters gathered that the victims were captured while trying to flee the camp before they were executed in the presence of other abductees. Sources said the bodies of the victims were later displayed inside the camp as a warning to others against attempting to escape. A disturbing video reportedly obtained by the platform showed armed terrorists, including children, surrounding the victims before the executions were carried out. The report added that about 416 women and children are still being held captive by the insurgent group.
A source disclosed that several children among the abductees had fallen ill and died due to starvation, harsh living conditions and lack of medical care, with the terrorists allegedly burying the deceased within the camp. Meanwhile, the Borno South Youth Alliance (BOSYA) has raised alarm over the worsening humanitarian situation, saying efforts had been made to negotiate the release of at least 50 women and children from the camp.
