The US government has warned that using AI-edited or filtered photos in visa applications may lead to delays or outright rejection due to strict identity verification rules.
The United States Department of State has warned visa applicants against submitting AI-edited or digitally altered photos, saying such images could delay or derail applications. According to Sahara Reporters, the advisory stressed that passport photos must be recent, natural, and unaltered to ensure accurate identity verification.
“Do NOT use AI or digital editing tools on your passport photo. We will not accept photos that are edited or filtered,” the agency said.
It added that photos must reflect applicants’ current appearance and be taken within six months. “Your photo should be recent (taken in the past six months) and look like you,” the agency warned.
The department noted that biometric systems used by security agencies rely on accurate facial representation, cautioning that non-compliant images could cause delays or rejection.
