A former presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has urged Nigerians not to vote for him based on tribal or religious sentiments as he prepares for a potential run in the 2027 general elections.
Obi made the remarks during an interview on Arise TV on Monday night, shortly after his move from the Labour Party to the African Democratic Congress (ADC). He emphasised that his candidacy should be judged on competence and vision rather than identity politics.
“I’ve said before do not vote for me because I’m from the South East. Do not vote for me because I am a Christian. Vote for me because I am committed to turning Nigeria around. And I will do it, starting from the North, because I know where the problem is. I will start bringing back the productivity that made the North safe. We will move the country from consumption to production. From sharing wealth to creating it.”
