The Federal Government has received formal acceptance of Nigerian ambassadorial nominees from 10 countries, including the United Kingdom, France, and the United States, while awaiting responses from other nations as diplomatic postings progress.
The Federal Government announced Monday that 10 countries have formally accepted Nigeria’s ambassadorial nominees, moving forward efforts to fill vacant diplomatic posts worldwide.
Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson Kimiebi Ebienfa listed the nations as the United Kingdom, France, the United States, Ireland, Qatar, the Republic of Benin, Ethiopia, Djibouti, Senegal, and Sierra Leone. “Responses from other countries are still being awaited,” he said.
The Presidency submitted 65 ambassadorial nominees to the National Assembly in late 2025. They underwent screening in December, but postings depend on host country ratification. Some nations, including India, have rejected certain nominees over diplomatic norms concerning governments nearing the end of their tenure.
Countries that have approved Nigerian ambassadorial nominees:
- United Kingdom
- France
- United States
- Ireland
- Qatar
- Republic of Benin
- Ethiopia
- Djibouti
- Senegal
- Sierra Leone
