President Bola Tinubu has approved the transfer of the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau from the Aviation Ministry to the Presidency to strengthen its independence and effectiveness.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the relocation of the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau from the Ministry of Aviation to the Presidency, overriding the position of Aviation Minister Festus Keyamo. The decision ends months of disagreement over where the bureau should be domiciled for greater independence and operational efficiency.
A document obtained by Saturday PUNCH showed the President agreed the bureau would function better reporting directly to the Presidency. A presidential advisory had earlier stated, “Mr President is invited to note that the Bureau’s effectiveness is currently limited by its placement under the Ministry of Aviation,” adding that global practice favours independent agencies reporting to top government offices.
